Perk up your skin in 30 short minutes: what a simple facial can do for you
It's been a strange, rough journey to this place but I am thrilled to be launching Beauty or Bust. This blog will serve as an extension of my brand new career in esthetics!
I never knew I would end up in this line of work but my years-long obsession with healthy skin has nudged me in the direction of educating others. I'll be able to accomplish this every day in my treatment room with clients but Beauty or Bust is here to reach a wider audience, and get more in depth with all things skin care.
So...let's get started with some basic information.
Why should you get a facial?
The most obvious reason is that it feels.so.good. You get to kick back and let someone else clean your face, massage included. But a facial goes much deeper than just taking a nap while refreshing your skin.
1) Facials aid with blemishes/acne
Treatment masks and creams used in salons are perfect for clients looking to clear up their skin. It's also safer to have a licensed esthetician handle extractions instead of popping at home, which can lead to infection.
2) Skin conditions such as oiliness or dryness can be tended to with personalized treatments. Everybody's skin is different but sometimes drugstore products may not have a high enough concentration of corrective/beneficial ingredients (like vitamin C or retinoic acid) to help correct these problems.
3) Exfoliation is important!
Exfoliating removes dead skin cells, making the surface of the skin smoother. This can also help products penetrate deeper. Exfoliation treatments at a salon, such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels, are more beneficial than many at-home treatments.
4) Massage not only feels good, it does good things for you!
During the massage portion of your facial, blood and lymph circulation are stimulated and sluggish skin is activated through increased sebum production.
5) Facials also help with your skin's elasticity.
Aging is inevitable, but getting a treatment that includes firming ingredients will help your skin in the long run. It's never too early to start!
So what are you waiting for? Find your way to an esthetician ASAP — your skin will thank you.
